Southern Air.

It has been quite a while since I have last posted on my blog. Half of me feels as though I have abandoned an old friend, but the larger, stronger half of me recalls the day I started this blog. On that day, I promised myself this:

Now as I paged through this ancient diary with terrible handwriting, I noticed something else. There were large gaps where I would stop (for one reason or another, or maybe no reason) writing and then pick up a month or a several months, or at points, a year or more later. This is also life. And also beautiful. At times, it sucks you in and you haven’t any time for recording. I suspect this will happen as well on this blog. And I am excited for that too.

So, I the past few months have absolutely sucked me in and left me with very little time for recording. Without further ado…

In June, Ryley and I took a beautiful 5 day trip to Charleston, SC. We were there for my cousin’s wedding (which was amazing!), but decided to extend the trip by a few days to enjoy the historic downtown, the beautiful beaches, and lovely southern air. These pics are from our first day exploring downtown- I was looking for a comfy yet chic look that could go from morning shopping, to oceanside brunch, to crab/seafood extravaganza dinner!

The Jeans Every Girl Needs.

Saturday was absolutely lovely! What a great way to go into Memorial Day weekend! We spent the day relaxing at home on the deck and playing with our puppy! After a nice walk, we came home and went straight back to the deck… which reminded me that I needed to make a post to tell all of you about THESE jeans! They are so comfortable, light weight, and cutesy! They are a light wash with destroyed knees and a nice loose fit! Perfect for summer lounging- which I intend to do A LOT of this year! I just paired with a simple powder blue tank and a belt for a really laid back look! You MUST get a pair of these to have a complete wardrobe for those summer nights that are just around the corner!

The Spring Trench Coat.

I live in Wi, so I have to knock on something wooden in order to actually say this without bringing on another snow blizzard, but I think spring just might be here, for real! After a long winter, most wisconsinites are relieved to finally feel the warmth of the sun on our faces again. But weather is still quite inconsistent. This means that to head out for a long walk, we may have to endure some strong winds, or a damp experience. Ryley and I love to take advantage of this time of year for dinner and walk dates. Our fav is to head over for some mexican cuisine at Fiesta Cancun (downtown Oconomowoc), and then since we are right there, we will bring our walking shoes and walk around the lake as the sun sets. This is how we spend many a friday night. And this week was no different!

While the spring sun felt great, there was a brisk wind, so I find a spring trench coat to be the perfect layer! It will keep you guarded from the winds, but still looking stylish so you can head to dinner and still be outside afterward. I am absolutely CONVINCED that the trench coat is a closet staple. It looks great with a light weight scarf and some slightly distressed jeans for an effortless natural look. I wouldn’t be caught in any other spring jacket!

The Unexpected Photos Are My Fav.

If there is one thing I have learned in my short time dabbling in photography, it is that the best shots come along at random. At times I drag my camera along with me and find absolutely nothing worth shooting, but other times, it just so happens that I catch a hidden jem. Sometimes, the most insignificant picture, that most people may have never lifted their camera for, turns out to be one of my absolute favs! In fact, I would say there are many pictures that I have taken that make me smile simply because they are so quirky and unexpectedly beautiful. Here is a small collection of those moments from the past 6 months or so. The next time you think about leaving your camera at home- remember to expect the unexpected!

Sunday Morning Coffee Health Kick.

Ryley and I have been making this secret Sunday morning concoction for the past 2 years. It started out as something we would just make on weekends; a quick way to kickstart our way into a healthy eating day. Now, we make it every morning and it is a staple to our success in living and feeling well. Not only does it keep us lean and energized, but it helps keep our digestion regular, which means we have a significantly reduced risk of ever acquiring many of the world’s most deadly cancers. It also boosts our metabolism and prevents cavities! And the best part- it tastes better than any latte or frappuccino from Starbucks! The details are below!IMG_8302

Ingredients.

10 oz brewed coffee (I use decaf, he uses regular- you pick!)

1/2 of a dropper of iodine (start out with less than this and work up to half of a dropper over several weeks)

1 teaspoon grass-fed butter

1 tablespoon of coconut oil

cinnamon to taste

Health Benefits.

The coconut oil and grass-fed butter both have energy boosting properties naturally (up to 8 hours of sustained energy!).  The coconut oil additionally will help coat the digestive track, allowing digestion of food throughout the day to happen more comfortably and smoothly within the body, ultimately aiding in digestion. Coconut oil is a miracle ingredient for feeling good! And it adds some yummy flavor to your coffee. Iodine is not something most people keep in their cupboards, but it is actually scientifically proven to be an effective cancer preventative. Most diseases, like cancer and cardiomyopathy, originate from within the digestive track. Iodine helps clear the digestive track and to rid the body of toxins that typically cause disease. The grass-fed butter is known to harden teeth and can actually reverse a cavity. I usually take cod liver oil with my coffee drink because the grass-fed butter is more effective when it bonds with the oils in the cod liver oil. This butter is incredibly rich, so a little goes a long way. It gives the drink a nice silky texture and a creamy smooth flavor. Lastly, the cinnamon will boost metabolism to keep you lean and feeling good. It also provides some flavor.

Directions.

Brew your coffee and poor it into your blender.IMG_8278

Add the coconut oil, butter, iodine, and cinnamon. Blend for a few seconds until it is a creamy tan color (almost like a latte).

IMG_8283IMG_8285IMG_8296IMG_8297

Poor into your mug and enjoy!!

Note: Having a little caffeine in the morning is a tactic many americans use to wake up in the morning and to feel alert. My husband drinks it religiously every morning. Due to having increased anxiety after consuming caffeine, I have decided to cut caffeine completely out of my diet. I make this drink with decaf coffee, but it still helps to wake me up with natural energy boosters! This drink can be made either with decaf or regular coffee.

The Simple Things. Peonies and Ranunculus.

When I started this blog, several months ago, I committed myself to writing about the things I love. However simple or seemingly insignificant. It is easy to get sucked into the drawl of life at times. This post is inspired by one of those moments that happened recently that really snapped me out of it. I had just gotten home from work and it was a longggg week. I was rambling on about some story about something that felt important at the time. Ryley had dinner on the stove and I was rambling and getting things ready for dinner; multi-tasking per usual. Picking up odds and ends off our island, getting plates out, etc. I had my hands full of plates, cups, silverware and I continued to ramble as I turned around to head for the table when I saw them. Delicate, natural, and beautiful. My loving husband had purchased flowers for me. And not just any flowers from the pick n save florist- these were the most special flowers. These are my favorite flowers; the ones that I had hand selected for our wedding day. I was so taken aback by this kind gesture that for days I touched them, smelled them, and photographed them. So today I leave you with this; sometimes it’s the simple things.

The photos are taken by my loving husband (and some by me too), who is also the one that got me these lovely flowers! The sweet pink shirt is from Anthropology. The necklace is from Forever 21. Jeans are from The Loft. The pink loafers are Steve Maddens.

Oh Happy Valentine! Pink and Polka Dots.

It’s usually about a 50-50 shot when you ask someone whether they enjoy Valentine’s day. But if more people looked at it as a chance to celebrate all things “sweet” such as love, chocolate, the tender curiosity of a child, an hour of quality time with your sister in pj’s watching chick flicks, etc., more people might join the movement. Or maybe it is just a good excuse for a chic outfit! Whether you hate or love the Hallmark holiday that is before us, embrace your feminine side with this sweetie polka-dot blouse! Date or No Date- this girly polka dot outfit is for everyone! Can be dressed down to wear doing errands with a simple pair of slacks, or dress it up with these girly peep-toe pink heels!

IMG_8337 IMG_8334IMG_8357IMG_8349IMG_8343IMG_8335IMG_8331IMG_8350IMG_8340IMG_8351IMG_8342IMG_8348IMG_8354

The photos you see here are taken by the lovely man with whom I plan to spend my Valentine’s day this year and every year after!

This feminine polka dot blouse is from The Loft (watch for a 40% off sale and it will be a steal!). The blush handbag is from The Limited. The pink peep-toe heels are from Macy’s (they are old- not sure what brand). Belt is from Forever 21. Skirt is from H&M. Watch is from The Buckle. The calligraphy in the sunburst frame is done by me and the frame is from Ben Franklin Crafts.

5. Notify my nominees.

1. What made you set up your blog?

I feel a blog is really no different than a diary- just a little more modern. A few years ago, I moved out of my parents’ house and into a tiny one-bedroom apartment with my now husband. In the process of the move, I cleaned out all the plastic storage totes that my mom had been saving in the basement for me for years. I happened upon my childhood diary. When I opened it up, and began reading the entries, I was shocked at what I found.

Insignificance. Or what would appear as insignificance. That is what I found. My entries were about things as insignificant as going to schlotzsky’s deli for lunch with my mom. Or feeling the tickle of my gerbil in my hands. Or my sister building the best barbie castle ever. As a child, these were clearly worthy of taking the time to write a diary entry about. These simple insignificant things were significant. When I reflect back now, I realize the wisdom that I have lost as I have grown. When I was young, I knew that simple daily events were what made life beautiful. I never want to lose sight of that. So why a blog? To remind myself of the beauty of simple. The beauty of an ordinary day.

2. You cover a lot of topics that are hot in the news? what about these stories catches your eye?

The answer to this, in my eyes,is simple. Passion. I write about things that I love and things that I think others might love.

3. My blog is all about sex and dating, have you ever had a funny dating story?

Funny dating story… ahh the memories are flooding my mind… Most of my dating stories take place in college where I had 3 female roommates. My roommates loved to meet and talk to the people that I went on dates with so they could decide whether to give the stamp of approval or not. This one man pulled up to the curb outside our house in a blizzard and honked the horn. DIDN’T even come to the door! Needless to say, I didn’t come out. Call me old fashioned, but I do love to be courted.

4. What is your get-up-and-go song? The one that gets you moving?

No judging- Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance.

5. Do you have a favorite blog that you read all the time?

I just can’t get enough of Style Me Pretty. I adore their wedding posts and interior design posts!

6. Who is your inspiration?

Julia Hengel from Gal Meets Glam. She is lucky enough to have her blog be her lifestyle. I would love to be able to travel and see the world while doing what I love to do creatively.

7. What is your favorite color?

Pink- for sure.

8. Do you have a favorite post that you have written?

Hmmm. Tough one. I have two posts that I love! They both take me back to summer, so here they are!!

Perfect Black Lace Dress & Ladies Love Lace.

9. What is a day like in the life of Quite Adored?

Every day starts off for me at 5:00 with my workout! I get ready and leave for work by 6:00. I teach 120 6th and 7th graders all day (if I can keep up with them!) and usually get home around 4:00 or 4:30. Since I make all of our meals for the week on Sundays, I just have to heat things up when I get home, which is great because Ry and I are usually STARVING! We eat and then we will go for a walk outside if it is nice weather. If not, we are total Friends freaks, so we will watch that or one of our fav shows! Around 9:00 we head up to lay in bed and wind down for the night. And repeat.

10. What would you like to say to new bloggers just starting out?

Well, since I just started my blog not too long ago (about 6 months), I would say don’t be too hard on yourself. I am doing this as a creative outlet that I enjoy, but there have been times when I just don’t feel like writing for whatever reason. If you don’t feel like it, don’t. Because there will be days when you do feel like it and you will! And the posts you do out of passion will be far more fantastic than those done by obligation.

Thank you again to She Dates for the nomination! And now for my nominations!!

Never Forget Your Honeymoon.

When my hubby and I were planning our honeymoon to Puerto Rico, we new that we were about to have a once in a lifetime experience. Similar to the wedding day itself, we also knew that the honeymoon would fly by quicker than we could imagine. We wanted a way to forever remember the love and romance that came with our honeymoon experience in Humacao, PR. I decided that photos were a great way to achieve this. But after what we paid for our wedding, there was no way we could afford to hire a photographer to follow us around for the trip, or even an hour of the trip. So I bought a $15 tripod on amazon, set it up in the sand and we had our own early morning beach honeymoon shoot! And the results are dreamy and intensely romantic!!!
